English Language Learners (ELLs)
Scheduling a face-to-face appointment at the WRC is a great way to help you learn to write in American English. We may also help you understand how the format and style of writing in American English differs from your native language or country. This process takes time. We encourage you to make weekly appointments where you can work with a tutor to set reasonable goals for developing as a writer at UNC Charlotte.

Online Resources
The best way to improve your writing is to practice. Here is a list of online resources for practicing writing at home:
- Dave’s ESL Cafe offers resources and links for ELL students, including live chat.
- The Purdue University Online Writing Lab offers resources such as printer-friendly handouts and exercises designed to help ELL students.
- The Writing Center at UNC Chapel Hill offers resources and links for ELL students, including ESL guides and language resources.
Handouts
Some of our clients want some extra help with grammar-related concerns. Our tutors can help you practice American English grammar during face-to-face tutoring sessions, but the best way to improve is to also practice between sessions at home.
