The WRDS Technology Statement
The Writing, Rhetoric & Digital Studies Department (WRDS) recognizes that digital and online spaces provide valuable composing resources. Students in First-Year Writing courses use various technologies as part of their writing practice. The WRDS faculty are committed to protecting the privacy and intellectual property of all students. Some courses provide opportunities for students to publish their work for online audiences, but students are never required to share their coursework outside a closed university-sanctioned platform such as Wix, Weebly, or Canvas. Any student who chooses to share their work on a public platform will provide their instructor with written consent and will be provided options for safeguarding their privacy and digital footprint. In addition, instructors and students are expected to adhere to best practices regarding the use of social media in their classrooms as outlined on the following websites: UNC Charlotte Office of Legal Affairs webpage, UNC Charlotte Social Media Best Practices.
